First half of the production of solid wood flooring increased

In the first half of 2013, the wood processing industry in Guangdong remained relatively stable overall, but it faced intense market competition and various challenges. Despite a significant improvement in commercial housing sales compared to the same period last year—especially with a 30.4% increase in residential property sales—the domestic market for wood processing products showed strong potential. This favorable environment helped boost the sales of wooden furniture and other related products, which in turn supported an increase in the production of processed wood items within the province. However, the export performance of wood products remained weak. Since April, the global economy had been developing slowly, and many countries experienced weak market conditions, which significantly affected the export of wood furniture and fiberboard. According to statistics, exports of wooden furniture fell into negative growth during the first half of the year, which had a major impact on the MDF and particleboard markets as well. Additionally, with increased production of MDF and particleboard, the market became highly competitive, leading some companies to shut down or scale back operations. Notably, solid wood composite flooring, which had seen a decline in recent years, experienced a rebound. This was largely driven by improved export demand and continued growth in the commercial housing sector. As a result, production of solid wood composite flooring rose significantly in the first half of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012. This positive trend suggests that despite the challenges, certain segments of the wood industry were able to adapt and find new opportunities in a changing market landscape.
