Personal profile: Lu Canhua, who graduated from Shenyang Institute of Technology in July 1986 with a bachelor’s degree, is a senior researcher-level engineer and recipient of the State Council's special government allowance. He currently serves as the chief expert at China Ordnance Industry Group and is a core member of the Science and Technology Innovation Team at Zhongnan Diamond Company, part of Henan West Group. As a key talent in the field of superhard materials technology, he has contributed significantly to the industry through numerous national utility model patents and has received several provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards. He has also been honored with titles such as "Model Worker of the National Defense Science and Technology Industry," "Outstanding Contributor to Weapons Industry and Civilian Products Development," and "511 Talent of the National Defense Science and Technology Industry." Additionally, he was awarded the title of "Outstanding Expert of Henan Province" in the sixth batch.
On March 2, the day before the opening of the 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), this reporter had the opportunity to interview Lu Canhua, a CPPCC member and chief expert of the group company.

Lu Canhua expressed that he did not expect to be elected as a member of the CPPCC. “I didn’t anticipate that someone who once focused solely on technical research would have the chance to participate in national politics,†he said. Initially, he felt no sense of pride or glory, but rather saw it as another high honor bestowed by the Party and the people. “This honor belongs not only to me, but also to the China Ordnance Industry Group where I work. My election is mainly due to the leadership and support of the group company, the continuous enhancement of its strategic position, and the attention and recommendations from the party committee. I am also grateful to the Henan Industrial Group for their guidance and to Zhongnan Diamond Company for providing a strong platform. Most importantly, I want to share this achievement with the entire team of researchers in superhard materials technology, whose efforts over more than two decades have made this possible.â€
He added, “At first, I saw it as an honor, but now I feel a great sense of responsibility.†Before the meeting, he attended political training sessions that helped him understand the role of the CPPCC and how to engage in state affairs. “From watching it on TV to actually participating in policy discussions, I’ve learned a lot, and the pressure is real,†he admitted honestly.
**Looking Forward: New Progress in Science and Technology**
Lu Canhua’s company, Zhongnan Diamond Co., Ltd., under China Ordnance Industry Group Yuxi Group, is based in Nanyang City, Henan Province, and is the world’s largest manufacturer of industrial diamonds. Despite lacking natural resource advantages, the company has maintained a leading global position in high-quality industrial diamond and cubic boron nitride markets.
According to information on the company’s website, Zhongnan Diamond was originally known as Henan Zhongnan Machinery Factory, established in 1981. It transitioned into the superhard materials business in 1998 and achieved a major breakthrough in 2001 with the development of key technologies in superhard material production, including the successful testing of powder catalysts and synthetic core column manufacturing technology. This innovation reshaped the global superhard materials market, allowing China to become a major exporter rather than an importer.
As a scientist who has witnessed the company’s growth, Lu Canhua highlighted several factors behind Zhongnan’s success: strong leadership commitment to R&D, investment in talent development, internal innovation systems, market-driven research, and close integration of science and production. He emphasized that the company’s early efforts to retain talent, including regular social activities and financial incentives, played a crucial role in its development.
**Performance: Based on the Position, Serving the Masses**
During his term, Lu Canhua stated, “First, I must continue to focus on my daily responsibilities, especially in tackling superhard materials technology and research projects. I will further strengthen the construction of the national superhard materials technology center, continuously improve our competitive edge, and live up to the trust of the group company and Yuxi Group. Second, I will study more, broaden my perspectives, conduct research, and master the knowledge and skills required for CPPCC members to participate in political deliberations. This was Lu Canhua’s first time attending the National Committee of the CPPCC, and he acknowledged the challenge of presenting practical and policy-oriented opinions at the national level.
