Inflatable life jacket three forms of appearance
Inflatable life jackets are available in three main styles: the vest-type, the scarf-type, and the belt-type. The vest-type is commonly worn like a jacket and provides full upper-body support. The scarf-type resembles a neck scarf and is designed to be wrapped around the neck for quick access. The belt-type, also known as an inflatable balloon life jacket or water safety belt, is worn around the waist and offers a compact and lightweight solution.
All inflatable life jackets come in two versions: manual and automatic. They are widely used by maritime police, fire departments, border guards, fishermen, and other units involved in water rescue and safety operations.
The scarf-type inflatable life jacket is made of TPU material and features a bright yellow color for high visibility. It weighs only 0.8 kg and includes a manual inflation device, a mouth-blown air valve, and a whistle for emergency signaling. The automatic version has an automatic inflation mechanism that activates when the user falls into water, inflating the life jacket within 5 seconds. A horseshoe-shaped airbag is placed around the neck, and nylon straps secure it to the back and waist, providing 16 kg of buoyancy. This model ensures the body floats upright with the head above water, making it ideal for long-term water exposure. It is commonly used in military, customs, fishing, offshore platforms, flood control, yachting, and hydrological surveys.
The vest-type inflatable life jacket is designed like a vest, with adjustable front and back seams for a customizable fit. Before inflation, it’s easy to wear; once inflated, the airbags wrap tightly around the torso, helping the wearer float with their head 120 mm above water. Made from TPU and nylon, it features dual air chambers, manual or automatic inflation options, and a CO₂ gas cylinder. Its design ensures efficient buoyancy and ease of use.
The belt-type inflatable life jacket is also available in manual and automatic versions. It complies with international maritime standards, including the IMO SOLAS Convention, and holds a CCS certificate from the China Classification Society. It has been adopted by major national projects such as Hong Kong, Macao, and Zhuhai. Used by organizations like the China Communications Waterway Bureau and Rescue Bureau, this type of life jacket is equipped with a rapid-inflation system. When activated, a pull tab pierces the gas cylinder, releasing compressed gas to inflate the airbag quickly. Its folded design makes it easy to carry and deploy, ensuring both convenience and high safety performance.
