China's crude steel production is the first in the world

Over the past five years since its establishment, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has been committed to implementing the decisions and strategies set by the State Council. Focused on promoting a scientific development approach, the ministry has emphasized the path of new industrialization, pushing forward the integration of information technology with traditional industries and the synergy between military and civilian sectors. Through continuous reform and development efforts, it has ensured steady and rapid growth in the industrial and communication sectors, achieving remarkable progress.

As the backbone of the national economy, industry plays a crucial role in maintaining economic stability. Since 2008, under the strong leadership of the central government, the industrial and information sector has worked tirelessly to achieve stable growth and transformation. Despite major challenges like the global financial crisis and the devastating Wenchuan earthquake, the industrial economy maintained a relatively fast and stable development. During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, the average annual growth rate of industrial added value reached 11.3%. In 2010, China surpassed the United States to become the world's largest manufacturing country.

Among the top 500 industrial products globally, China leads in the production of 220 items. By 2012, mainland Chinese companies had risen to 73 in the Fortune Global 500 (including Hong Kong), up by 62 from 2002, securing the second position worldwide. In 2011, China produced the most crude steel, accounting for 44.7% of the world total. It also led in electrolytic aluminum output, making up 40% of the global supply, and held 42% of the world shipbuilding market. Car production surged from 5.7 million units in 2005 to 18.4 million in 2011. That same year, China was the top producer of color TVs, mobile phones, computers, and integrated circuits, capturing 48.8%, 70.6%, and 90.6% of global shipments respectively. The software and IT services sector generated over 1.88 trillion yuan in revenue, significantly boosting China's international standing.
