Mirka Ltd., the world's leading manufacturer of abrasives and power tools, announced the acquisition of a 100% stake in Italian superabrasive grinding wheel and tool manufacturer Cafro SpA. Mirka is a subsidiary of the Finnish family group KWH Group, offering a comprehensive range of high quality surface finishing sanding solutions. The acquisition is a major component of Mirka's business strategy in expanding its superabrasives and grinding solutions.
Mirka CEO Stefan Sjöberg said: “As we welcome Cafro to the Mirka Group, we are excited about the new opportunities that the two parties have created together. Cafro's expertise and manufacturing capabilities are in line with Mirka's global market influence. With our joint efforts, I can foresee the rapid expansion of business."
Cafro SpA, a family-owned company based in Como, Italy, is a leading manufacturer of diamond and cubic boron nitride (CBN) wheels and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) and polycrystalline CBN (PCBN). For Cafro, the acquisition is a great opportunity for global business expansion.
Mario Mancina, Cafro's newly appointed managing director, said: “This is a rare opportunity for Cafro. The next step in our business development to create a truly global market has been launched. Over the years, we have been systematically developing our unique Products and processes, and therefore one of the few manufacturers to offer a full range of superabrasives for the precision machinery industry. Now we can work with Mirka to accelerate our growth."
The third generation of the Mancina family, owner of Cafro since its inception in 1955, will continue to lead the Cafro business under the Mirka Group.
Stefan Sjöberg concludes: “The acquisition of Cafro is the cornerstone of our current portfolio of precision grinding. Mirka and Cafro customers will benefit from a broad and comprehensive supply of surface finishing and grinding solutions.”
ProMan IMAP Finland acted as the buyer's advisor to the acquisition.

The ceramic bars were subjected to single-side grinding experiments on Alumina Ceramics using diamond abrasives of different particle sizes. The ceramic rod is about 1450 ° C ~ 1600 ° C, the product shrinks sharply, especially between 1450 ° C ~ 1550 ° C, this stage needs to slowly heat up, so that the product has enough time to shrink. The fourth stage: the heat preservation stage, compared with the small size product, the ceramic rod large size product needs a longer holding time, so that the product is fully sintered. The fifth stage: in the cooling stage, due to the creep of alumina in the high temperature stage, the rapid cooling before the creep point will cause stress relaxation of the product.
