Daily Reading: The rolling bearing's ferrule and roll body are subjected to high contact pressure on one side, while the other side rolls with sliding motion. The cage, on one side, is in contact with the ferrule and the roll body, or slides on one side, while experiencing tensile and compressive forces. Therefore, the materials, functions, and main requirements for the ferrule, roll, and cage are as follows:

Functions Required for the Ferrule and Roll Data:

The ferrules and rolls must have high rolling fatigue strength, high hardness, excellent wear resistance, and long durability. For the cage, good dimensional stability, high mechanical strength, and good processability are essential. Depending on the application, additional requirements may include impact resistance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance.

Information on Ferrules and Rolls:

Ferrules and rolls are typically made from high-carbon chromium bearing steel. Most bearings use SUJ2, which has been standardized globally. For example, it corresponds to AISI 52100 (United States), DIN 100Cr6 (West Germany), and BS 535A99 (UK). These steels are widely used due to their consistent performance and quality.

For applications requiring higher impact resistance, chrome steel, chrome-molybdenum steel, or nickel-chrome-molybdenum steel may be used. These materials are often carburized to create a hardened layer on the surface, improving impact resistance. The chemical composition of carburized bearing steel ensures proper hardness and microstructure, making them more suitable for heavy-duty applications.

NSK uses vacuum degassing treatment, resulting in cleaner materials with lower oxygen content and better overall quality. Proper heat treatment significantly extends the service life of rolling elements in bearings.

In addition to these standard grades, special applications may use high-speed steel for superior heat resistance or stainless steel for better corrosion resistance.

Frame Material Information:

Cages are commonly stamped from low-carbon steel. However, depending on the application, brass plates or stainless steel may also be used. When cutting frame materials, high-strength brass, carbon steel, or synthetic resins can be employed to meet specific performance needs.

Shield Reinforcement Ring

The simplest shape of the reinforcing ring is a rectangular column attached to the surface of the product, but in order to meet some production or structural considerations, the shape and size of the reinforcing ribs need to be changed as shown in the following figure. The position of the bottom of the product must be rounded to eliminate excessive stress concentration. The rounded corner design also gives the runner a gradual shape to fill the cavity with curvature. Problems such as water trapping will also lengthen the production cycle and increase production costs.
