Common incorrect installation methods for flow meters

1. The flowmeter lacks the necessary protective accessories.
2. The inner diameter dg of the orifice gasket between the meter and the pipe is smaller than the inner diameter dp of the pipe and the inner diameter dm of the meter to generate a beam. Dg should be slightly larger than dm, such as dg

3. Install the instrument sensitive to vibration interference on a vibrating pipe.

4. The flow meter is in the wrong flow direction.

5. Electromagnetic flowmeter> The gasket is eccentric (unaligned center). The gasket is eccentrically mounted to cover part of the flow area, making the velocity distribution severely distorted and asymmetrical. Since the asymmetric flow occurs at the inlet of the flow sensor, that is, the length of the upstream straight pipe section is zero, it will bring measurement errors to the differential pressure type, turbine type, vortex type, ultrasonic type, target type, electromagnetic type and the like. For example, the dn50mm electromagnetic flowmeter pad is eccentric 10mm, and the measurement error is as high as 4% to 10%.

6. The acute angle of the standard orifice plate is not mounted on the upstream surface.

The inner diameter of the gasket is too small or the installation is eccentric. Although it has no or minimal effect on the flow value of the volumetric, float, Coriolis mass gauge, etc., it will increase the additional pressure loss. Ultrasonic flowmeter analysis considers these defects to be well known or proposed by instrument manufacturers. However, because the operators are not strictly trained and lack of knowledge and are not taken seriously, such mistakes are not uncommon.
