Epoxy floor in the process of using the drum package causes and solutions
Cause:
1. The ground surface is not properly treated for moisture, allowing underground moisture to rise and lift the epoxy coating. This can lead to blistering, peeling, or delamination of the coating over time.
2. The base surface was not fully prepared, leaving contaminants such as oil, grease, one-component paints, or adhesives that are incompatible with the epoxy coating. These substances prevent proper adhesion and cause the coating to fail.
3. During the application of solvent-based materials, the primer or intermediate coat was not fully dry before proceeding to the next step. As a result, solvents remain trapped beneath the coating, creating pressure that causes bubbles or lifting in the finished layer.
Solutions:
1. Remove the existing coating completely, apply a moisture-resistant primer, or consider using a water-based epoxy floor coating. Alternatively, use rigid waterproof mortar before applying the epoxy coating to ensure a stable and moisture-free base.
2. Repair the damaged areas by removing the affected coating, cleaning the surface thoroughly using grinding or organic solvents to eliminate any dirt or contaminants, and then reapply the coating following the recommended process.
3. For localized damage, remove the affected section and perform a partial repair according to the original application procedure to ensure consistency and long-term performance.
It’s important to follow each step carefully and allow sufficient drying time between coats to avoid future issues. Proper surface preparation and moisture control are key to achieving a durable and high-quality epoxy coating.
